About L.I.G.H.T. Ministry

A ministry born from lived experience.

Dayjoh & Kayla King didn’t start L.I.G.H.T. from a strategy deck. They started it from a street, a story, and a conviction that the teenagers of Upper Darby deserve more than they’ve been handed.

The Missionaries

Dayjoh & Kayla King

InFaith Missionary Candidates · Upper Darby, PA · Est. 2025

Dayjoh leads from where he’s lived. His own journey — the obstacles he’s come through as a young man, a husband, and a father — is the same ground he walks now with the teenagers of Upper Darby. That’s not a marketing line. It’s the credibility that makes this ministry real.

Kayla co-leads the work alongside him. Together they’ve built L.I.G.H.T. into a holistic, relational ministry — one that meets students where they are and refuses to leave them there.

In 2025 they joined InFaith — The American Missionary Fellowship as missionary candidates, partnering an 180-year-old institution with grassroots, neighborhood-rooted youth work.

The Calling

Why Upper Darby. Why teenagers. Why now.

Identity Confusion

A generation without anchors.

Teenagers are forming identity in environments that hand them noise instead of truth. We give them a different lens.

Socioeconomic Pressure

Real obstacles, named honestly.

Upper Darby’s youth carry the weight of urban poverty, limited opportunity, and systemic barriers. We don’t spiritualize that away.

Relational Fractures

Mentors who stay.

So many students are short on consistent presence — father figures, safe community, adults who don’t disappear. We’re trying to be the ones who don’t.

Ministry Philosophy

Holistic. Relational. Slow.

L.I.G.H.T. is not programmatic. We believe transformation happens in community, not isolation. Through authenticity, not performance. Over time, not in a single event. By design — programs create the environment, but relationships do the work.

“Programs create the room. Relationships fill it. We’re trying to do both — but if we ever have to choose, we’ll always choose the relationship.”
